By that same token, should you suspend any team that knowingly or unknowingly violates any other federal, state, county or municipal laws during a contest?

Before you answer that question, let me remind you of these scenarios:

1. Missouri State liquor laws prohibit anyone from bringing in their own alcoholic beverages into a licensed area where such beverages are sold by the drink or for retail. This means anyone who brings in their own alcoholic beverages to the American Royal contest is in violation of Missouri liquor laws. How many teams are you going to suspend or kick out of the contest? Are you going to revoke the winning team's title because they brought in their own booze?

2. The town of Lynchburg, Tennnessee is in a dry county. Are you going to kick out the teams at the Jack Daniels contest whose guests and members are drinking an illegal beverage in a red cup? What if the winning team was seen consuming alcohol during the contest, will you revoke their GC as well?

3. The Sam's Club contests have a stipulation of no alcoholic beverages on their property. Are you going to disqualify teams that have guests or members consuming alcohol on Sam's property? Just because the beverage is in a red cup, doesn't make it legal.

I am not defending what the team member in your described incident did, but retroactively disqualifying their GC is not right. Pot is still illegal, but in the certain circumstances that I have described the consumption or importation of alcoholic beverages is illegal too.

Beers for thought,
