It was one of those "if I had a quarter every time someone asked..." thing!
Did a contest cook last year with all charcoal. Normally in optimal cooking conditions (not too hot, cold, windy, wet), it takes 60 pounds to cook a contest. With charcoal it took 40.
With thermostat controlled cookers, that means you get your heat up with less pellet consumption. I do think charcoal pellets need help with flavor.
