The member concensus vote last January (which was non-binding, not a bylaw change) led to work towards a regional representation plan started in the fall of 2011. The board could not come to agreement whether member numbers should match across regions, regions should be geographic rather than based on member numbers at all, would only members of a geographic region vote for a regional candidate and what if someone gets a seat with a minimum number of votes just because they are in a particular region and more. Tonight's board meeting will discuss a member survey where the board can get more member guidance.
In My Opinion -- Regional representation is a great concept but hard to implement fairly. The popularity contest of the board election now has one real positive, every KCBS member votes for their four and the candidates with the most votes get a seat and every KCBS member can vote for any four candidates regardless of where that candidate is located. Again, this is my opinion only and not representative of anyone else's opinion or the opinion of KCBS or its board of directors.
