I believe the 3-2-1 or the 2-2-1 method and even the recipe of preparing these great contest ribs originated right on this forum about 10 years ago.
Texas Rib Ranger (Bill Milroy) posted this article on this forum on February 13, 2001 and can be found in the archives using the search engine. I looked under "Tinfoil" using the Texas Rib Ranger name.
This recipe and method is still being used every weekend by many cooks on the KCBS circuit and still does quite well.
I would like to say thanks to Bill for this technique and recipe as it sure helped me with my ribs.
Bill did refer to Jumpin Jim's great recipe for contest chicken and it can be found as well thru the search engine on this forum. It's another great recipe and technique that is still winning events to this day on the KCBS trail.
Another thanks goes out to Ray for this wonderful forum and a method of accessing some great past history.
