I guess I do, bjust didn't know it. I add a little of the original rub and maybesomething else that pairs with the rub. Or maybe something to add a tiny bit of "kick" in that final layer.
I just might have to start running them through a coffee mill o get them completely powdered. I've been using my rub-dedicated coffee mill to break up the leftover chunks in the spice jars. Florida humidity plays havok on "natural" spices/rubs without anti-caking inredients.
