Well, we didn't get into KCBS competitions until '94, but from what I was told back then, a big part of the pork parting rule had to do with people cheating, turning in tenderloin disguised as butt. It wasn't really a problem with chicken, brisket or ribs. I'm sure, though, that in today's high-dollar competitive landscape, there's much, much less cheating than there was back in the day. ahem...

Anyway, I stand by what I wrote a few years ago: All the innovations in barbecue these days are about making it easier, not better.
