Organizers of contests work very hard at raising award sponsors and support from businesses and community. We do not have control over the weather and every year take a chance that it won't rain and keep the public from attending an event. The sponsors still come through with the prize money and all organizers appreciate the support and willingness to help bbq contests grow.
Two years ago, it rained a downpour and the attendance was greatly affected. The sponsor decided to not take the chance this year because of the chance of rain again. The next potential sponsor hasn't done outdoor events and also decided that a major contest was too risky. Treasure Island Resort and Casino has done outdoor events and has tentage that will be there in case of rain. They are willing to take a chance that it will be good weather.
I praise them for their commitment to have a major contest and if the weather cooperates and people attend, I am sure they will want to continue the event annually.
Thank you for supporting the sport of BBQ
