If KCBS reps are saying that, well, it's indicative of what is wrong with the KCBS. And it's a big steaming pile. Reps have no business telling judges what flavors "should" or "shouldn't" be turned in as barbecue. KCBS regulates the process, not the flavors. If a judge likes a gallon of Open Pit sauce sauce on a rack of ribs, and those ribs have been cooked and entered within the rules, it's not up to the Rep to tell the judges how to rate the entry. Judges are free to rate entries as they see fit, but they should NOT be told that a piece of meat with sauce is or isn't barbecue.
And, sorry, dude, but your definition of "better" isn't the law anymore than mine is. Taste is relative.
