Twenty years ago, when there was a professional and amateur division with each division having their own judging tent with their own judges. Each division awarded ribbons and what little prize money existed at that time. Each division had their own champion with the grand champion being the team with the most overall points regardless of their division.
My proposal is similar to this. Two divisions, senior and junior. Seniors would be defined as any team who has won a grand champion in previous years, cooked ten or more contest the previous year, ten or more contest the present year or if they choose to cook in that division regardless of their team's history. A seperate division would exist for less experienced teams if they so desire to cook in the junior division.
There would be only one judging tent with the judges senior and junior entries being judged at the same tables. Since this is blind judging, the judges would not know which division the entry belongs. As in the past, two divisions of awards with the overall grand champion being the team with the most overall points regardless of their division.
Entry fees would be the same for either division with the monies being paid out pro-rated for the number of teams in each division. A minimum number of teams for the junior division would be required for this implementation to take place. Otherwise the contest would default to the standard we use today.
I am sure people are going to shoot holes in my idea. So let the bullets fly. I may not be able to post for a few days due to the upcoming snow storm we are supposed to be getting.
Beers for thought,
