Our good friend Chez has lost someone he had a bunch of respect for, and someone who was the inspiration for the smoky angel award.
In Chezs' words-
norm was a country boy from the hills (blue ridge mountains) of tennessee ... loved his God, his family, his country, bbq and bluegrass music. his word was his honor ... and he always kept his word. he was a good man.
i helped him with some marketing stuff and wrote a bunch of original recipes for him using his dumplin' valley sauce ... i wouldn't take any money for it, so every year in the springtime at the beginning of bbq season, a case of norm's "tennessee table sauce" (as he called it) would show up on my doorstep.
RIP Norm "Captain Sauce" Spradlen
(the very first recipient of the Smoky Angel Award)
In my words, Norm(and Chez) have left their mark, and are still a symbol of why the smoky angel hall of fame exists today.
