Whenever I judge, I try to remember to make the comment that "if I can't taste the meat through all the sauce, then it's NOT BBQ" right before the chicken and/or ribs are brought in. Most people at my table seem to agree, at least at that time.
Maybe we should all take this on as a project, as well as filling out the comments.
