Yes it really is hard to beat bbq just cooked plain and simple the way it has been cooked for 100's of years.
We get the strangest looks from people who find out we're a championship cooking team who want to try our competition food when we tell it's not fit to eat. They are just bewildered and don't understand why we would make such a remark.
In discussions we had with a couple of very successful bbq restaurants owners in town (who also compete)both owning multiple locations across town and in 2 states, I asked them how successful would they be if the bbq served at their locations was the over enhanced sickening bbq winning today. They replied, no way, they would have to close up.
