This is a very interesting question you ask, I wish I was a expert so I could give you an answer with confidence. My guess is it has to do air flow which has to do with the design of each pit. You said they both have the same controller so the only other variable I think of is the air flow. This stuff fascinates me I just wish I had learned more in my engineering classes.
