No foil on the bars. The bars are designed to allow grease to fall off/burn off. Foil will hold the grease on and thus, start a fire. When done grilling, simply turn up your heat for a while and close your lid. Once hot, turn down the heat, open and using a wire brush, clean the grill grates. Takes 5 minutes.
