Trying to figure out what kind of Pit is in this bbq joint. Pit is a large wood burning pit with fixed shelves. On the firebox is what looks like a horn. There is a mechanism on top of the horn that appears to drop a plate down to cover the open part of the horn. This lets in air to the firebox and is controlled by a thermostat. Could this be an old Oyler? Pit is in Jack's Beef Delight & BBQ in Nevada, Iowa. At one time I believe this building housesan extension of Battles BBQ that was located in Ames, Iowa. I remember eating there once when it was Battles. Was written up in the Des Moines Register so went up to try it out. Any info would be appreciated by both Jack and myself.
