Will a large drop in prize money kill a contest

Quick poll. If we decide to produce the Smokin' Aces event in Tunica, MS the prize purse would drop from $40,000 to $10,000 due to lack of sponsorships. Last year's event drew over 80 teams. Do you think it is still worth producing or will the turnout be so diminished we should pass? Quality event at a great location, just a big drop in prize dollars! Opinions should be from a promoter's point of view. Expenses are so great, if attendance is cut in half, the event would lose money. Let us know what you think if it was your pocketbook involved. We feel that the competition would lose many teams and are wrestling with the decision. Hope we're wrong in our thinking!
