I agree that it looks awful strange slamming Danielle and not mentioning all the other guest judges that don't meet the lofty standards of the OP.
Regardless, the entire thing is a red herring. The show needs a broader appeal than just BBQ fanatics like us to survive. We will understand the nuances between winning a People's Choice rib cook-off and being an auto for the Jack. Will the general viewing audience? Will that difference help the show's pedigree with the general audience? Not at all.
The guest judge should be knowledgeable, articulate and able to judge competently. Once that is established the next level of criteria should be charismatic and able to hold the viewers attention. I really don't think that it much matters if you are in the top tier of elite competitors when it comes to judging the show. I liked Aaron Franklin. I liked seeing Danielle on the show. I would like to see Adam Perry Lang on the show.
