Hope all is well, enjoy your time at the JD.
No doubt it comes into play in the individual categories in a few ways:
1. The traditional top teams in a category have an off day for their product = bad luck.
2. The traditional top teams in a category land on a table that is all wrong for their turn-in that day = bad luck.
3. The "lucky average" team's turn-in lands on a table that is just perfect for their turn in that day = good luck.
Not so sure luck comes into play very often with regards to determining a GC.
"Good Luck" and "Bad Luck" help win categories sometimes.
I'm thinking the probability of the luck factors resulting in high enough scores in all four categories for an "average" team isn't very high.
