Ironically, the author said it to get people talking about it. That said having lived in Memphis and spent a lot of time in KC, I wish people would just enjoy both cities as BBQ centric Meccas of BBQ. Both cities have that vibe about them that only people who love BBQ understand. That said I would vote KC as number 1 and Memphis number 2, but see no issue with either calling themselves a capital of BBQ.
