If those steaks are about 1/2" - 3/4" thick, I think you have what is probably the most popular cut of meat (other than maybe hamburgers and hotdogs) grilled in the St. Louis metro ares...pork steaks. I was raised in the Kirkwood, MO suburb of St. Louis, and that was about ALL we ever grilled. As far as I know, it's stll extremely popular. I wonder if your Boston friend was inadvertantly sending you a culinary message. Kind of like if you had lost the bet and you sent HIM a bushel of clams or lobsters.
