Is alcohol abuse! While I do cook beer can chicken from time to time, I never use beer in the can, I just use plain old water. The beer from the cans is used for basting the cook.
While my personal observations have led me to agree with the Naked Whiz's experiments, I still do use the beer can method as a way to get more birds on the smoker. I always use a "oil can" or 25.2 ounce can of Fosters for cooking a 12-15 pound turkey on the WSM.
