After thinking a about this awhile I realized that it kind of depended on what part of the country you were in. In Texas they had drill pipes and a lot of bbq cookers were made out of this material, in dairy country they had a lot of them made from insulated milk tanks. Folks kind of used what they had available. I still have an old oil tank I like to fire up now and then. I cooked the Jack on it in 2006.
