I have had the exact same conversations. One question that comes to mind though is how did you deliver the message?
If your "blood was boiling" or if you made her feel dumb, then her reaction should have been expected. Now, with that said, there are those who take it seriously and want to learn and there are those who do not. At a recent contest a relatively inexperienced judge asked a lot of questions - why did we judge an entry that way, what does it mean when an entry tastes like lighter fluid, etc. Obviously, she was trying to learn and I encouraged her after the contest.
On the other hand, I have gone to the contest rep during a contest and encouraged them to talk with a particular judge. The cooks work too hard and spend too much money for a judge to be nonchalant about the process. Okay, I'll stop rambling now.
