The motor I bought for my smoker from Grainger's Had a built in gear reduction and brake, well kind of. Had something built into the unit to keep it from rolling backwards or forwards.
Now if I would take all the food off one rack, it would roll because of all the weight shifted, but if I take a little off every other rack, I have no problems
