I have decided that some brands of them are just better than others. I do not know which ones are better. I buy 4 new ones about every 3 years. I have never boiled them in oil or anything like that. When I am at a contest when I get through with them I take the wires loose from the unit and throw the probe ends in a dish pan of soapy water to soak about 30 min before washing to soften up any gunk on them. I have had some that tanked after the first cook and some that are 10 years old and keep on going. The ones that tanked I took back for a refund. I say if the quality is there they will last. If they do not last, take them back.
