I had a wire bristle pierce through my tongue. My middle son has had one pierce his tonsil. I still use a wire brush to clean my grates, but now I buy good brushes instead of the cheap variety. Since the second incident, I examine the grate closely and if I find a stray wire, that brush is no longer used on cooking grates.
