Frank, I am sorry I missed your post and just now saw it. I only have been using three belts to get the results I want. If the knife does not already have a convex edge then I use the course one (X120) to put the basic edge on. Then I use the X 65 followed by the X22. Then when the knife gets a bit dull I only use the X22 a few times to re sharpen it.
