In my opinion yes, there is a difference.
When you wrap a rack in foil you can control how much of the additives (stuff you may be adding in the foil to add additional flavor to your meat) the rack is getting.
When you do a bunch of racks in a foil pan it always seems not all the racks get the same exposure to the additions.
Also, there's a much more humid atmosphere within the foil pan due to all the meat plus all the additives vs the atmosphere within the individual foil wrapped rack.
Also, also you have more control over the individual foil wrapped racks with regards to final cooked results as you can inspect and remove whereas in the foil pan you may have the tendency to treat them as a batch and just remove when some are at their prime time to come out.
For contests or for when you really want to nail it I'd encourage you to individual foil wrapped each rack.
For just some good ole eating with family & friends, the foil pan will save you some time.
