We have been compete and judge. Competing 17 years and judging for 15. Getting an above average score still doesn't tell me a whole lot. A 7 in tenderness, and the team wonders if the judge thought it was too tender or too tough. Did the judge get a rib that was near the end of the rack which may be too tender or a rib from the middle of the rack which may not have been as tender.
Filling out the comments cards are fairly simple, most is just checking a box.
When I judge I usually fill out a number of cards, even when the team gets a really good score, tell them what they are doing something right.
