I did, but my middle section didn't last. I cut too much of the bottom out and it didn't hold its "round" very well. :(

It didn't seem to matter whether I used briquettes or lump but briquettes are LOTS cheaper. Lump burns hotter and leaves less ash but in a longer smoke, you'd need to refill more often especially in cooler/colder temperatures.

Have fun with it. I keep threatening to rebuild mine but without doing a better search, I can't find another pot (at least locally!) to start the roject.
