I did some cured pork sirloin cutlets and hanger steak on my Weber one touch last nite and did not note any grey powder as you did. But I'll say this, it burned white hot, as hot or hotter than lump I've used before and lasted very well too. Also, when I snuffed the grill down with the dampers, what was left was good solid, reusable chunks for next time. So far I like it as well as Royal Oak if not better, we'll see!
