My problem with gas at a BBQ contest is and always has been the safety.

Lots of teams don't take real good care of their BBQ equipment and it seems that the team that take the least care seem to drink the most. This usually just impacts their own scores even if they have a fire where it shouldn't be in the cooker. Grease fires can and do happen a LOT.

Add into this mix a poorly maintained gas line that is frayed and should have been replaced last year or the year before. It suddenly breaks lose in the middle of the night when the team is passed out.
What might have been just a small contained fire in his own cooksite can now explode and take a team or two on each side of the idiot's cooksite.
