We were thinking more along the line of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Instead of pods we have glowing green pork butts. As Jeff Foxworthy says "you know you are a redneck if.....you've ever lost a loved one to kudzu". Be afraid...be very afraid.

Formerly posted under BamaQ. Changed when we got the new cooking team together (Kudzu BBQ Cooking Team) and opened the restaurant ;-). Also found out someone had been using BamaQ as thier ID on another BBQ posting site.
Have had my own company in N. Bama for 18 years. Seen the good and bad of it. Was lucky enough to have had some caring folks help me out at the start. Have been reading and enjoying Capt Petes BBQ log from the beginning. Hope to meet him someday.

Question on bark appearance? (5/4/2004 8:20:40 PM by Kudzu)

I have now looked at this presentation on four different computers. On all of them the bark looks black. Not just slightly black, but creosote, inky, charcoal, middle of the night black. Is this an acceptable color for bark? Our bark turned out that exact color at Winchester and we have been working on what we perceived to be a problem to solve it before the Huntsville contest. Have I been judging the wrong way in the past by looking for the ruby/mahoganey/dark cherry coloring on bark and lowering scores for black?
The use of garnish on this entry was exceptional(maybe needed more meat to counterbalance it) but I am really thrown by the scores given considering the color of the bark. Don't remember being taught how to judge the color of bark during my CBJ trainings but always thought I knew what to look for. Any guidance out there?

I understand that most appearance pictures posted here seem to turn out darker than the live product. However we are asked to judge it on how it appears on our monitors. On four different computers that I have used it appears the bark is black as coal. (I even asked my daughter to look at it and tell me the color of the bark)Considering the high scores given I was just wondering if people are taking the photo darkening effect into account and adjusting thier scores accordingly or if that dark of bark(as seen on our monitors)is acceptable for high appearance scores.
BTW: You can garnish our turn-in boxes anytime. Excellent work.
