I'm always surprised by the reaction by purists. Do we slaughter and dress our own meat? Is it okay to buy meat? Mine our own salt and grow our own rub ingredients? Make our own smokers? Own charcoal? Grow our trees?

I strive for the best possible barbecue. I enjoyed my WSM. I like my Traeger more as I can sleep easy on overnight smokes. I don't think the finished product is better, just more of it per smoke and I can spend more time multi-tasking. If gas with wood can give me a better result, why would I not want to use it?

One day, robots will be able to make bbq as good as we do and consistently better. The meat will be grown through cloning, like growing plants. And I'll die fat and happy.
