Below is a thread started by David & Laura Waun regarding a Wounded Warrior Battalion event at Ft. Belvoir.

David got the help that was needed and all went well.

This is David's follow-up to me.

I'm posting it here so folks will know of David and Laura's continuing efforts along with others to be of support to our Troops.

To date they have provided over 55 events for our Troops and are still going strong.

They are amazing!!!

The following is from an e-mail from David Waun:

Thank you for your help with sharing my request for help at Ft Belvoir!

Today was the Christmas party, and all went well.

My friend, Roger Dietrich (Operation BBQ Relief lead for Ohio) was able to connect me with 2 awesome BBQ'ers in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area.

Though this was not a BBQ event, I knew BBQ people had a big heart, and will serve if they can.

The organizers of this Christmas party, Phil and Vera (both 76), have helped me, every time they could, with our BBQ for our Troops events in Ohio.

In years past, I was able to help them with the Party. (The last two years, we have also had early summer BBQs for this Wounded Warrior Battalion.)

This year, I was unable to help them, I am in Michigan 3 days each week, helping care for my 86 year old Mom with Alzheimer's at her home.

Phil and Vera had a couple going in my place, but at the last minute those arrangements fell through. That is why I was trying to find them help.........
FYI: They scheduled this year's Ft Belvoir BBQ for May 17th, and both of our new friends want to help there too!

Laura and I are still cooking for our Troops with the help of friends. We are at 55 BBQ's since 2007, after we helped Del with his April 2007 BBQ at Camp LeJuene. Largest one was for 1,400 in Michigan in 2010 (we don't have large bases like California) Our most consistent BBQ is for the Ohio National Guard's summer camp for children of our deployed Military, we have fed 500+ each year for the last 9 years.

I am also part of Operation BBQ Relief, and have taken Federal and private training to respond in disasters. That will be more of a focus in my life from this point on, after I am no longer needed to help Mom in Michigan.

Thanks again for your help; for getting us the BBQ Angel years ago; and for being a friend.

David Waun
