As a Canadian (eh) I don't get lots of opportunities to eat real
BBQ. My wife and I will be in Phoenix sometime in March. I realize
that Phoenix isn't KC, however, does anyone have any suggestions
as to where I might go for "respectable" 'cue (of course
I'm assuming that "other than KC" BBQ can be called
respectable)?

As a former KC resident, I have to recommend you try Lovejoy's
KC Pit BBQ.They are located in North Phoenix, near Turf Paradise.
Their address is 15414 North 19th Av. The nearest cross street
is Greenway Parkway.
Reqardless of where you are staying in the Valley of the Sun,
it's worth the drive. Great ribs, sliced beef and pork and some
really spicy hot links.
They are a family-owned restaurant and formerly worked at a couple of the great BBQ places in KC. Check them out.

Being from Dallas the BEST place I found is El Paso Bar B Que
Co in Scottsdale 998-2626 and Phoenix 931-2438. Actually better
than anything I've had in Dallas!

Probably the best place for BBQ in the metro Phoenix area is at a place called "Honey Bears BBQ." It's located on Van Buren Street near Phoenix Municipal Stadium (Spring Training Home of the Oakland A's, at least that's where they play their home spring training games.
