you will have many options depending on what part of the country you are in ...also you could email lets say texas gulf coast bbq assoc to see if they have a mentoring program or will let you join a team for a few comps ...south carolina has an excellant society that usually only cooks 1-3 meats depending on the contest new england bbq also is connected with kcbs and they also have contests gba and fba are also excellant and you can always start out in the backyard division with most of the ones I mentioned...get in touch with any BBQ assoc and get started
