It never would have occurred to me to brine a butt or shoulder, since they are so fatty and moist anyway.

But after reading your post, I saw that people were adding in extra flavor by brining and injecting brine. One recipe for a cider brine looked pretty good.

I pour an excellent sauce over the meat after I pull it adding plenty of flavor and is a lot less work.
