Sourcing cooking wood in and around Omaha has always been a challenge. I was always on the lookout for dead apple trees or any dead fruit tree. Of course that always involved a chainsaw. I know several local tree services collect and sell fire wood and some even know what cooking wood is. Orchard always have dead fruit trees they want to get rid of. But for cooking OAK you probably need to look a little to the southeast tip of the state around Nebraska City. Hope this helps.
