I feel very fortunate to have spent most of my life living in the Kansas City Missouri area and had the great good fortune to be able to have good barbecue almost anytime I wanted it. After all we have over 125 BBQ restaurants in the area and for many many years barbecue has been priced very reasonable. I mean I could get good barbecue sandwich, cheap most anytime I wanted it. But in recent years the price of barbecue has gone up considerably. To make matters even worse as the price is going up the quality at a lot of places has gone way down. Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking that are reading this, that should be cooking my own barbecue and you're right but I don't always have time to cook barbecue and so for convenience I stop at a barbecue restaurant occasionally to satisfy my insatiable desire for good que.

The big part of the problem is is that this expensive barbecue I've been buying is not any good. I have been going to some well-known places to get my barbecue fix. Let me give you an example about a week ago I was with my wife and we drove past the Gates and Sons and so we thought we'd stop in and give a try again. I haven't been to Gates in Kansas City for a long time. So we ordered two bernt ends sandwiches and the bill was around $26. We got the sandwiches to-go since we were were were quite a ways from the new Gates and Sons on 40 Highway. To make a long story short we wound up throwing away most of it in the trash can, tough, greasy, chunks of fat, and I'll never go back there ever again.

Last weekend I was in the downtown area of Kansas City, I'd been to a meeting and was really hungry. So I stopped at Jack's Stacks downtown location and this time I ordered two beef sandwiches again it was at the go item and the bill was $27. Sandwiches looked really good, notice I said looked, as it was piled with a lot of beef and a couple sides. However, we're in for another major disappointment because the beef was dry and had no flavor if you didn't know what you were eating you would think it was just tasteless beef.

So I want everybody to think that all of barbecue joints in Kansas City or bad I had some really good meals at Q 39 and Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que formerly known as Oklahoma Joe's.
