if you look at the pork butt from the MM side you will see there is a line of fat going from one side to the other right at the top of the MM. carefully trim into the butt carving the MM out, not all the way out but leaving attached as much as you want. post the cook you can run you hand/fingers in that area and the MM will just fall out. you can always error on trimming away from the MM to the Bone End.
