I've been lurking on this Forum for a few weeks now and I thought I'd just let everybody know who I am (or who I think I am anyway...)
My name is Scott and I currently live in Flower Mound, TX (Near Dallas). At one time or another I've lived everywhere in Texas with the exception of West & Southwest Texas. I consider myself a native Texan.
I'm 33 years old and a Senior Consultant with a Software company based out of San Francisco. I travel very often.
My exposure to BBQ has been lifelong, Just sort of grew up around BBQ all my life. I've always loved the stuff and I can tell a greenhorn when I taste their cookin. ;-)
I've had a Water Smoker in my family for as long as I can remember. I'm only recently beginning to do my own pit work, even though many around me have done it for years.
Admittedly, my bias is favored toward the dry cooking BBQ style (rubs and sauce on the side) associated with Texas Barbequeing rather than the Kansas Style (mops and sops). My motto: "If you have to slather it in sauce, you must have messed up the meat."
My favorite 'Q joints are mostly guys running pits on the "wrong Side of Town". More established places include: The Salt Lick in Driftwood, TX., The Green Mesquite in Austin, TX., The County Line in Austin, Tx., and Ruby's Organic/Hormone free Barbeque in Austin, Tx.
My idea of heaven is entertaining guests at my house with a backyard patio, a pool and a pit full of 'Que. I'm still waiting on heaven though, as I've no pool (dang!)
Hope to see you all on the forum.
Sincerely, Scott in Flower Mound, TX.
