The current team as it is structured today consists of two additional Team Members. Phillip (Bubba) and Diane Fick. We have been cooking competitively for three years and have had a lot's of fun and met many nice competition cookers across the United States.
In our first year, we were fortunate enough to win the "Rookie of the Year" for the KCBS. In our 2nd year (1994) we were 2nd runner up for the "Team of the Year". and this last year we finally did it! We came out on top by winning the KCBS "Team of the Year". That is the highest award given in Competition Bar-B-Que, and is in essence, the National Championship. We also placed 1st. in the brisket and chicken categories and 2nd in ribs for the 1995 season. A few of our other big wins included the 1993 Overall Grand Champion in ribs at the American Royal Open (282 teams competed). 1st. place brisket at the 1995 Jack Daniel's World Invitational, and Overall Grand Champion of the Kansas State Championship at Lenexa KS in which 155 teams competed
We attribute a lot of our success to some of the really fine equipment and products we have used exclusively. We use Weber Grills and Water Smokers, "Premium Standard Farms" Pork ribs and butts, and Tyson Chickens. We consider ourselves very well prepared and organized and never experiment in a competition environment. Our consistency has been our greatest asset.
In our first three years of competition we used the team mane "RE/MAX is Cookin" Now". In 1996 our new team name will be "Top Secret" to coincide with a new line of Spice Rubs, Sauces, and instructional videos which hopefully will be on the market this spring.
Most of all, we like the people we cook against. They come from all walks of life. We share a common interest in cooking good bar-b-que, and really have a good time at the contests.
